In 2023, the average insurance payout in Russia for harm to life and health under the OSAGO policy in accidents involving motorcycles and motorized vehicles reached a record 259 thousand rubles. This was reported by the press service of the Central Bank.
This figure exceeded compensations for passenger cars by 29%. The reason for such large payouts was the more severe consequences of accidents, both for the motorcycle drivers themselves and for pedestrians.
The average payout for accidents involving motorcycles last year was 93.6 thousand, which is 6% more than for passenger cars.
At the same time, the cost of the OSAGO insurance policy, despite the high risks, was moderate for motorcyclists in 2023 – about 2.2 thousand rubles. On average, this is almost 3.3 times cheaper than for passenger cars.
However, the low price of OSAGO does not attract motorcyclists. In 2023, 357 thousand policies were issued in Russia, which is 6.4 times less than the number of officially registered motorcycles.
