The security of Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Victory Parade in Moscow was ensured, among others, by snipers of the Federal Security Service. One of them was spotted with an Austrian Steyr-Mannlicher SSG 08 rifle. The Telegram channel "Military Informant" drew attention to the foreign manufacturer.
Initially, the snipers were photographed by Russian and foreign photojournalists. An SSG 08 rifle was fixed in front of the shooter, who was behind the merlons on the Kremlin wall.
This weapon with a cylindrical bolt was developed by Steyr-Mannlicher. The sniper rifle was first introduced in 2008. The weapon is produced for 7.62 by 51 millimeter cartridges - ammunition for NATO countries, and 7.62 by 67 millimeters. The weight of the Austrian rifle is 5.7 kilograms.
Telegram users were surprised in the comments to the post why the president's security snipers do not use Russian-made weapons, because there are domestic rifles of the ORSIS brand and Lobaev Arms company and do not engage in import substitution. One of the commentators suggested that the choice of the Austrian Steyr-Mannlicher SSG rifle is a personal preference of the sniper.
Note that the Federal Security Service is already armed with domestic ORSIS-T5000 rifles, which are part of the Accuracy sniper complex. In addition to the rifle, it has various optical devices. The effective range of the ORSIS-T5000 is 1600 meters, and the modernized version is 2000 meters.
Earlier www1.ru wrote about a new sniper rifle from the Russian company Lobaev Arms, the SVLK-14S Twilight weapon can be used by snipers and assault troopers. Unlike foreign counterparts, the rifle is lightweight - only 3.6 kilograms.
