The Russian arms company Lobaev Arms is developing a new lightweight sniper and assault rifle chambered in 308 Winchester (7.62mm x 51mm), which will be able to operate in automatic fire mode, its founder Vladislav Lobaev said.
The production of all parts will be based at Lobaev Arms, which will provide more complete quality control
The new rifle is lightweight - only 3.6 kg, which is 1 kg lighter than foreign analogues of this caliber. At the same time, all important indicators are maintained, including accuracy of fire, he stressed.
The engineers have provided for the possibility of installing a replaceable bolt face - the front part of the bolt, which supports the breech end of the barrel and locks its bore. Thanks to this, the weapon can function both as an automatic weapon and as a sniper rifle.
According to Lobaev, the lightweight rifle will replace the "Smerch" and Lar-10 "Counter". The first batches for trial operation will be produced in February-March 2024.
Earlier, Lobaev Arms began production of the self-loading Zveroboy sniper rifle. The gunsmiths are also developing a hypersonic sniper cartridge, which will be able to reach speeds of over 1500 m/s.
