Russia increased its arsenal of intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) equipped with the Avangard hypersonic glide vehicle in 2023, which helps bypass radars and ABM systems, said the head of the US Northern Command, Gregory Guillaud.
Russia will put into service the Sarmat heavy ICBM, equipped with a partial orbital bombardment system, which will allow it to reach the United States via the South Pole
Russian engineers are developing and testing experimental types of weapons. In particular, Guillaud recalled the Burevestnik nuclear-powered cruise missile of unlimited range and the Poseidon underwater drone. He believes that these weapons will challenge the US defense.
Guillaud claims that in the event of a conflict with the United States, Russia will aim its missiles at the enemy's critical infrastructure.
The Pentagon representative also noted the regular patrolling by Russian Aerospace Forces bombers of the airspace in the area of US and Canadian air defense systems. And the Russian Navy has increased the number of long-range voyages of ships and submarines carrying cruise missiles, he concluded.
