The first new tram of model 71-639 "Castor," produced at the Ust-Katav Wagon-Building Plant, has started running in Yekaterinburg. The three-section car of the "Roscosmos" subsidiary is almost entirely assembled using Russian components and technologies.
According to IA "EAN", the leadership of the Sverdlovsk region and Yekaterinburg personally assessed the comfort of traveling on route No. 18. And now, in the future, these trams, among the fastest in the country, could update the fleet of the Ural capital.
"Castors" may be chosen for the million-plus city due to its characteristics:
- small length of just over 25 meters, but significant capacity — 261 passengers;
- the maximum number of seats among domestic trams of this class — 64 seats;
- space for passengers with limited mobility;
- 12 charging connectors;
- heating and air conditioning system according to the weather;
- maneuverability: the turning radius of the tram is 14 meters, which will allow it to be used for main transportation;
- speed — this tram is one of the fastest in Russia. It can accelerate up to 90 kilometers per hour.
It is known that the "Castors" produced by UKVZ open a series of trams named after the stars of our galaxy. But so far, the other trams in the new series are not being discussed.
