"PK Transport Systems" has begun shipping a new batch of its 71-911EM "Lion Cub" trams to Tula.
This is already the tenth Russian city to be equipped with this environmentally friendly mode of transport - Tula is receiving 22 new cars under the national project "Safe High-Quality Roads". Prior to this, "Lion Cubs" have been successfully operated in Moscow, Izhevsk, Ulan-Ude, Perm, Ulyanovsk, Krasnoyarsk, Cherepovets, Yekaterinburg and Kursk.
Trams of this model can carry up to 155 passengers, including 40 seated passengers. There is also the possibility of travel for people with limited mobility - one of the doors has a folding ramp for wheelchairs.
The car itself is constructed from aluminum alloys - this ensures durability and fire safety. It has a unique low-floor bogie from "PK TS", which ensures smooth movement of the four-door car. Inside the cabin there are USB connectors for charging gadgets, a climate control system and a modern media complex with monitors to display information about the route, time and distance to the next stop, and the temperature in the cabin and outside.
Passenger safety is ensured by internal and external video surveillance cameras - they are installed on the sides and at the rear of the tram. In addition, the "Lion Cub" has an active safety edge system. It will not allow the tram to start moving if there is a passenger in the doors. And in the event of an accident, the passive safety system distributes the force of the impact throughout the car - so the driver and passengers will suffer less.
