Specialists from the Analytical Center for Air and Space Defense (AC ASD) assessed the capabilities of the modular Buk-M3. In their opinion, the combat complex is capable of successfully protecting enterprises and other urban infrastructure facilities.
The modular version of the Buk-M3 SAM system is capable of significantly increasing the level of object air defense and parrying existing and future threats of air terrorist attacks.
The organization noted that the Buk-M3 anti-aircraft missile system is fully capable of intercepting not only enemy drones, but also modern ATACMS, Taurus, and Storm Shadow missiles.
The Buk-M3 SAM system has powerful radars for detecting small-sized targets. For timely detection of missiles, the modular model is equipped with "a 9S36M illumination and guidance radar. By raising the antenna post to a height of 21 m, the 9S36M RPN noticeably \"moves\" the radio horizon line".
For maximum efficiency as air defense at the facility, experts from the analytical center advise abandoning the self-propelled part of the SAM system, which will also be easy to do, given that the Ulyanovsk Mechanical Plant has implemented the idea of modular construction of a medium-range SAM system. The modular version is called "Viking" and is supplied for export, but, according to experts, by abandoning the chassis, the cost of the SAM system will decrease, and the installation itself will increase reconnaissance and fire capabilities. The modular version also has an increased ammunition load, and ordinary wheeled transport can be used to move it to the position.
For guiding SAMs to the target in the modular version, only illumination and guidance radars are used. Thus, all fire groups of the complex are optimized to engage low-flying targets, and not part of them, as in the basic version (of course, the ability to engage high-flying targets is fully preserved).
Earlier www1.ru wrote that the Buk-M3, Tor-M2U, S-400 SAM systems will enter the Russian troops in 2024.
