The Central Bank (CB) of the Russian Federation has summarized the monitoring results for the first quarter of 2024. It turned out that the number of Internet projects with extortion schemes increased by 70%. Employees of the regulator emphasized that in 99% of the verified cases, they tried to obtain money under the guise of investments.
To deceive gullible users, attackers most often use social networks "VKontakte" and "Odnoklassniki". Many scammers disguised themselves as microfinance organizations, their number amounted to 62 out of 746 verified cases. A year earlier, this figure was 2.5 times less.
The growing need to get rich on cryptocurrency transactions has also led to an increase in illegal participants in the securities market. There were 46% more of them. The Central Bank additionally noted that 48% more illegal loans were issued this year.
Schemes are created for a short time, actively promoted on social networks and Telegram channels. Contributions are attracted through bank cards of individuals or in cryptocurrency.
The regulator restricts access to such resources. But the process takes from three to five days.
Despite the fight against Internet fraudsters, it is extremely difficult to achieve the return of funds mistakenly transferred to fraudsters via bank transfer. This probability tends to zero.
Earlier it was reported that Internet fraudsters are not asleep: fraudsters came up with a new scheme of deception using Roskachestvo.
