Tighter vehicle inspection controls proposed in Russia

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Duma are concerned about the increase in the number of fake diagnostic cards

The number of fake vehicle inspection diagnostic cards has increased in Russia. This was reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Owners of trucks and buses often use Photoshop and change tachograph readings. For this reason, law enforcement officials have proposed tightening control over vehicle inspections. The State Duma supported this initiative.

It is proposed to check the authenticity of photographs of vehicle inspections, as well as to see if the vehicle has a tachograph.

Rifat Shaikhutdinov, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Transport and Development of Transport Infrastructure, said that the vehicle inspection procedure could be changed by adopting an appropriate regulatory act. The lower house of parliament is ready to consider the proposal of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

It should be reminded that the rules for vehicle inspection in Russia have changed since 2021: a vehicle inspection of a passenger car must be carried out if the owner registers a car older than four years and it does not have a diagnostic card, as well as if changes have been made to the design of the car.

At the same time, the actual abolition of vehicle inspection for passenger cars did not affect trucks, buses and taxis, which must obtain diagnostic cards. The fine for driving a car without a vehicle inspection is 2,000 rubles.
