The crew of the first Russian combat icebreaker "Ivan Papanin" (project 23550), built at the St. Petersburg enterprise "Admiralty Shipyards", moved onto the ship before its departure for sea trials.

According to the defense department, the sea trials at sea will take place in the summer.

Captain of the second rank Kirill Tkachenko and the crew of the ship underwent basic training at the training center of the Russian Navy in St. Petersburg. The Ministry of Defense emphasized that the sailors are ready to test the country's first patrol icebreaker.

The USC said that the construction of the combat icebreaker "Ivan Papanin" was carried out under sanctions pressure. The ship was built with maximum import substitution.

Accommodation of the crew on the icebreaker "Ivan Papanin":

  • Command staff — in single cabins
  • Officers and warrant officers — in double cabins
  • Sailors and foremen — in four-bed cabins

The icebreaker also has a recreation area and a gym. In the galley, hot meals are provided to sailors four times a day.
