Chinese specialists, with the participation of Russian colleagues from Rosatom's Engineering Division, have installed the upper part of the containment dome at the eighth power unit of the Tianwan NPP, weighing 210 tons. The station is located on the shore of the Yellow Sea in Jiangsu Province.
Alexey Bannik, Vice President for Projects in China at Atomstroyexport (part of Rosatom), stated that the construction of the eighth power unit is proceeding according to schedule. Russia is responsible for the design, supplies equipment for the "nuclear island," and provides supervision and commissioning services. China is responsible for construction, installation, and commissioning works.
The construction of the Tianwan NPP is the largest project of economic cooperation between Russia and China. According to Rosatom's project, two power units (seventh and eighth, the agreement was signed in June 2018, and the work began in the spring of 2021) with a VVER-1200 reactor are being constructed. The four previously launched power units of the Russian VVER-1000 project supply millions of kilowatts of energy to China's power grid.
