Former Volkswagen plant in Kaluga may change owner by the end of the year

Avilon dealer will lose the asset if production is not launched

The Avilon dealer holding may lose the former Volkswagen plant in Kaluga. This will happen if the company does not start producing cars by the end of 2024. The Ministry of Industry and Trade is dissatisfied with the fact that the site is idle, said auto expert Sergei Tsyganov.

According to Tsyganov, representatives of Avilon need to negotiate with parts suppliers directly, and not through third parties.

I was recently told that Avilon's emissaries continue to knock on the doors of Chinese component suppliers, and the process is managed by representatives of GAC. But so far, the stone flower is not coming out: GAC itself is a buyer and cannot pass through itself more components than contracted

In January, the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Denis Manturov, said that the production of cars at the former Volkswagen plant in Kaluga should be launched in the first half of 2024. The expert community believed that the Chinese company GAC could become the technological partner of the enterprise.

Volkswagen sold the plant in Kaluga in May 2023 without the right of repurchase. Now it belongs to Art-Finance LLC, which is associated with the Avilon dealership.
