Law banning advertising with foreign agents came into force in Russia on March 22

Russians are now prohibited from placing advertisements on the resources of individuals recognized as foreign agents by the Ministry of Justice. The law, signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin, came into effect on March 22.

The ban applies to advertising on websites, blogs, and social networks. Restrictions also extend to Telegram channels and YouTube.

Fine Amounts:

  • For individuals — from 2,000 rubles to 2,500 rubles.
  • For individual entrepreneurs — from 4,000 rubles to 20,000 rubles.
  • For small businesses — from 50,000 rubles to 250,000 rubles.
  • For medium and large businesses — from 100,000 rubles to 500,000 rubles.

Punishment for Foreign Agents Advertising

While Russians will be punished with fines, foreign agents themselves face criminal liability for placing advertisements. For non-compliance with legal requirements, they could be sentenced to two years. The list of foreign agents, which includes nearly 800 individuals and organizations, is available on the Ministry of Justice website.
