This will be the first such contract manufacturing in Russia

The first contract manufacturing in Russia of superconducting quantum processors on 100-mm wafers for supercomputers is planned to be launched in Moscow on the territory of the new campus of Bauman Moscow State Technical University. The university intends to implement the project together with FSUE VNIIA named after N. L. Dukhov — they have been jointly developing quantum computer technologies since 2016.

Prior to this, the joint scientific center of these two structures, REC FMN, developed its own technology for superconducting Josephson junctions. With it, hundreds of chips of various quantum devices, united by a single technological manufacturing route, fit on one plate. In the manufacture of such chips, Josephson junctions with linear dimensions of tens of nanometers are created with sub-nanometer accuracy. The results of the research work have already been published in the international scientific journal "Scientific Reports."

The stated goal of increasing the power of Russian supercomputers by tenfold by 2030 can be achieved, among other things, thanks to serial technologies of quantum coprocessors developed on the basis of Bauman Moscow State Technical University. At the same time, the efficiency of exaflop machines based on quantum technologies may be significantly higher than traditional approaches — and at a much lower cost.

It is assumed that such processors will be in demand among leading Russian technology companies and scientific laboratories, taking into account the plans for the development of quantum technologies in Russia until 2030.
