Russian military almost completed work on putting Sarmat and Peresvet on duty

Shoigu reported to Putin on strengthening the Strategic Missile Forces

Work on putting the fifth-generation Sarmat missile systems on combat duty with a heavy multi-stage liquid-propellant intercontinental ballistic missile and Peresvet laser weapon systems (refers to weapons based on new physical principles -note from the editors of www1.ru) are in the final stage, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu reported at a meeting with President Vladimir Putin.

The West knows that we are at a fairly advanced stage of completing work on Poseidon, Peresvet, Burevestnik, and Sarmat.

The minister added that the military had completed work on the Avangard. Two regiments entered service with the Strategic Missile Forces and went on combat duty.

Characteristics of the Sarmat missile system:

  • Modernized version of the RD-264 engine
  • "Orbital bombardment" technology
  • Silo basing
  • Maximum speed in the atmosphere - 15 Mach
  • Performs maneuvers in the air to overcome enemy air defense

Characteristics of the Peresvet laser weapon

  • Performs air defense and anti-missile defense tasks
  • Illuminates optical reconnaissance systems of the enemy with a laser beam
  • Can be used to cover the starting positions of missile systems
  • Range - up to 1.5 km
