Domestic airbags and seatbelts will begin to be installed in Russian cars. Sollers will be the first in Russia to produce them. The passive safety system components will be manufactured in Ulyanovsk, on the territory of the UAZ industrial park.
The total investment will amount to 1.5 billion rubles, but considering the importance of the production, Sollers' subsidiary, Komponenty Sistemy Bezopasnosti LLC, received a loan of 1.2 billion rubles from the Industrial Development Fund.
According to RIA Novosti, the preferential loan funds will be used to purchase foam filling machines, component assembly lines, cutting and sewing equipment, lines for mounting printed circuit boards and assembling control units for the passive safety system, testing equipment for checking all components and products, and other necessary technological equipment.
The enterprise will employ more than two hundred people. The first domestic airbags, steering wheels, seatbelts, and electronic control units are planned to be produced in Ulyanovsk as early as 2025. The components will be installed both in passenger cars and light commercial vehicles of Sollers enterprises, and in cars of other Russian manufacturers.
The intention of Sollers to enter this niche was already appearing in insider information in November 2023. However, the leak stated that the passive safety system components would be produced with a Chinese partner based on Chinese technologies in a joint venture. Officially, Sollers has not yet announced a partnership with China in this area.
