A new unique hybrid jet-guided munition has been developed and patented in Russia.
The developer of the munition is not specified, nor is a schematic image provided. Its name is also not specified - so far it is known by the abbreviation GRUB.
According to the TASS news agency, which refers to data from the Federal Institute of Industrial Property, the product with the properties of an aircraft and a missile has no analogues. That is, in world practice there are winged missiles of various basing, but none of them can simultaneously fly at low altitude, carry in its design 122 mm caliber shells for MLRS and at the same time structurally resemble an aircraft.
According to the abstract of the invention, which is cited in TASS, GRUB has a body, "made according to the aerodynamic configuration of a \"tailless\" aircraft with a swept wing and elevons, with at least one vertical keel with rudders, a battery and a control system with a target self-homing module".
In the lower part of its body there is an armature for attaching "at least two 122 mm caliber shells for MLRS".
GRUB has a system for simultaneous launch of missile jet engines - they are guided to the target through a self-homing module with the possibility of additional coordinate adjustment from a reconnaissance source. The munition is capable of flying at low altitude, "repeating the folds of the terrain, with altitude and direction control for delivering pinpoint missile and bomb strikes against enemy targets".
