Passengers have complained about failures in paying for travel with bank cards in the Moscow Metro. The Moscow Metro offered to pay for travel in alternative ways, including using biometric data, a "Troyka" card, as well as purchasing travel tickets at the ticket office or vending machines.
When paying for travel with a bank card, passengers received an SMS notification that there were insufficient funds on the card. At the same time, the amount was debited, but the turnstiles did not open.
VTB, which is responsible for processing payments in transport, explained that if passengers were unable to proceed to the escalators after debiting funds from the cards, the funds would be returned automatically.
Moscow is actively developing high-tech methods of paying for travel. In 2023, a face payment project was launched. More than 330 thousand passengers used this method.
