The Russian government has released information about initiatives concerning the northern regions. The corresponding order was published ahead of Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to Chukotka.
The document lists initiatives concerning 16 regions, but telecommunications funding is only provided for the Republic of Yakutia, the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, and the Magadan Region.
The funds are needed to connect remote settlements to the Internet. The project is being implemented through the federal and consolidated budgets of the regions.
It is expected that between 2024 and 2027, 11.3 billion rubles will be spent on improving communications in Yakutia, 294.2 million rubles in the Magadan Region, and 5.8 billion rubles in Chukotka.
Earlier it was reported that Russia plans to improve communications along major highways. Rostelecom will be responsible for building the towers.
