Members of the National Electronic Mass Media Council of Latvia have decided to block access to all Yandex services, the head of the regulator Ivar Abolins reported on social network X.
Abolins clarified that access to Yandex Music, which hosts music and podcasts of individuals subject to EU sanctions, will also be closed.
In March 2022, the Yandex Go service was blocked in Latvia. Latvian authorities stated that it allegedly transmitted user data to servers in Russia.
Last year, Latvia adopted a law granting the National Electronic Mass Media Council the right to block access to websites with content that poses a threat to the country's security. The authors of the initiative explained that it would protect Latvian citizens from propaganda.
