"Mikron" to Begin Production of Chips for the Internet of Things

Major Russian mobile operators "MegaFon", MTS, "VimpelCom" have started testing domestic M2M SIM cards for machine-to-machine interaction, which are used in IoT devices (Internet of Things). "Mikron", a company known as the developer of the chip for international passports, has started producing chips for such SIM cards.

The "Mikron" plant will begin selling chips as early as 2024. Production volume is expected to be "at least several hundred thousand." A source at the company stated that employees had to adjust technological processes for the production of chips.

M2M SIM cards, which are characterized by low power consumption, are used for "smart homes", industry, and ATMs. According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, SIM cards will also be packaged at "Mikron". Specialists from "NM-Tech" may also be involved in the production of chips.

Earlier, Roselectronics invented a unique resistive paste for SMD chips, which includes precious metals. Thanks to them, the service life of such a chip is increased to 25 years.
