A new emergency prevention system for railway transport is being tested on the Oktyabrskaya Railway, which will help to avoid collisions of locomotives with foreign objects on the track.
The principle of operation of the device, which is mounted on the main frame of the locomotive and connected to the on-board network of the rolling stock for power supply, is simple. It emits a laser beam, which determines the distance from the locomotive to the obstacle in the range from 0.3 to 50 meters, and helps to take measures against the collision.
There are no Russian analogues of the system: it is able to operate in the temperature range from –50 to + 45 degrees Celsius and has a moisture-resistant housing with IP65 protection class.
The development is able to prevent accidents not only on the railway, but also in the subway, and in seaports in the crane industry. The launch of the system into mass production is scheduled for 2024.
