The Rostec State Corporation announced that engineers from the subsidiary concern Radioelectronic Technologies (KRET) plan to modernize the Vitebsk airborne defense system (ADS) (export name - President-S - note from the editors of www1.ru).
The systems will be installed on Russian-made combat helicopters. It is noted that the ADS will improve the ability to suppress the means used by the enemy to defeat rotary-wing aircraft.
Vitebsk is designed to warn the pilot about enemy launches of guided missiles, and to counter missiles targeting the helicopter with radar and infrared homing heads.
In addition to KRET engineers, specialists from the Ekran Research Institute and the Zenit Design Bureau worked on the ADS. Several modifications of the Vitebsk ADS have been developed, including the L-370V52 - for installation on Ka-52 helicopters, and the L-370E26L - for Mi-26.
It was previously reported that the Ka-52M helicopters will be equipped with a new radar (radar) for all-round visibility. With its help, the crew will be able to detect targets in the air in conditions of radio interference.
