Scientists in St. Petersburg Present a Drone to Help Search Teams

Scientists from the Scientific and Educational Center "Mathematical Robotics and Artificial Intelligence," operating at St. Petersburg State University (SPbSU), have presented a search drone. The drone is capable of finding a lost person by their shout.

The idea to create such an aircraft came to the engineers after searching for people using drones equipped with cameras and thermal imagers. It turned out that it is more difficult to find a person due to tree branches. In addition, analyzing video in real time is more difficult than working with sound. With the help of software, it is easy to separate a person's voice from background noise: wind, water noise.

It is expected that several of these search drones will comb the area in squares with an area of 5 km. During the drone's flight, the operator will be able to turn on the siren sound so that the lost person can hear it. Scientists are confident that their development will greatly facilitate the work of professional search teams and volunteers.

Earlier, specialists from the Central Design Bureau of Robotics presented an FPV drone that can be used by employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation and utilities. The drone can scan the atmosphere and detect leaks of harmful substances.
