The Russian Ministry of Defense announced the addition of a new nuclear-powered strategic missile submarine "Generalissimo Suvorov" of Project 955 "Borey-A" to the Submarine Forces of the Pacific Fleet. The submarine, developed by the Rubin Central Design Bureau for Marine Engineering from St. Petersburg, took about two months to transfer from the Northern Fleet to the Pacific Fleet.
The nuclear submarine was built at the Sevmash production association according to the modernized Project 955A "Borey-A". There are now two such submarines in the Pacific Fleet in Russia: before "Generalissimo Suvorov", "Knyaz Oleg" arrived there for combat duty.
"Generalissimo Suvorov" belongs to the fourth generation of nuclear submarines. It is equipped with modern missile and torpedo weapons, radio-technical, hydroacoustic armament and navigation systems.
Its main weapon is sixteen Bulava sea-based intercontinental ballistic missiles.
Each such three-stage nuclear missile weighs 36.8 tons. It is capable of accurately reaching a target within 8,000 kilometers. At a greater distance, it can give a probable deviation from the target of 120-350 meters.
Bulava can carry from 6 to 10 hypersonic maneuvering nuclear warheads of individual guidance with a total mass of 1.15 tons, capable of changing the flight path in height and course.
It is noteworthy that the missile carrier can launch Bulava underwater without stopping its course.
