Tests of a system for detecting unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in the sky have begun in the Rostov region. The system is capable of detecting even small-sized drones.
According to Anatoly Kalyaev, head of the "Laboratory 224 of Neural Network Systems" at the Southern Federal University (SFU), expensive radar systems are currently used to detect drones, but they cannot always detect small targets.
It is noted that the system proposed by Don scientists is effective in detecting small drones. The complex is a gadget with a connected video camera, the information from which is transmitted to the operator.
The program scans the sky, and if an object is detected, it determines its coordinates and direction of movement. The so-called "UAV catcher" can be used to protect civilian objects and critical infrastructure.
