Большой противолодочный корабль «Адмирал Чабаненко» обновят и модернизируют к 2025 году

The modification project of the large anti-submarine ship is expected to be completed with enhanced combat capabilities

During the International Exhibition and Conference "Neva-2023," representatives of the shipbuilding industry shared forecasts about the completion of the repair and modernization of the large anti-submarine ship (BPC) Project 1155 "Admiral Chabanenko." According to them, this may happen in 2025.

Following the example of the previously modernized same-type "Marshal Shaposhnikov," "Admiral Chabanenko" will be reclassified as a frigate, while receiving greater combat power compared to the first. This may happen as early as 2025.

As noted by a TASS source, it is planned to reclassify "Admiral Chabanenko" as a frigate with an increase in combat potential compared to the previous version. However, at the moment, the agency has no official confirmation of this information. The repair and modernization of "Admiral Chabanenko" are carried out at the 35th Ship Repair Plant, which is part of the Zvezdochka Ship Repair Center, and that, in turn, is part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation.

Initially, it was planned that "Admiral Chabanenko" would return to the Northern Fleet in 2023. However, according to the source, the delay is due to the radical replacement of missile and electronic weapons, which required additional work.

The modernization program for Project 1155 ships is a good option for the practical implementation of the "new ship - in the old hull" approach, when for a relatively small price the fleet receives a significantly updated combat unit, comparable in strength and autonomy of fire to a newly built frigate. But it is worth noting that the BPC "Admiral Chabanenko" has been under repair since April 2014. In 2017, when the repair was already supposed to be completed, a decision was made to send the ship for modernization. It was then reported that the price of such modernization could reach 75% of the cost of a new ship. "Admiral Chabanenko" was launched in 1999 - this year the BPC turned 24 years old, 9 of which he spent in repair docks.

Earlier, it became known that the heavy nuclear missile cruiser "Admiral Nakhimov" (undergoing repair and modernization since 1999 at the Sevmash enterprise in Severodvinsk) in November 2023 will be able to begin comprehensive testing of reactors in various modes of operation.
