The launch of the automatic station Luna-25 took place on August 11. According to the plan, it was supposed to land as early as tomorrow, August 21, but something went wrong yesterday.
In accordance with the Luna-25 flight program, at 14:10 an impulse was issued to transfer the station to a pre-landing orbit.
During the operation, an abnormal situation occurred on board the automatic station, which did not allow the maneuver to be performed with the specified parameters.
Currently, the situation is being analyzed by specialists from the control group.
The first data that Luna-25 had crashed appeared at night, and now Roscosmos has confirmed the crash.
On August 19, in accordance with the flight program of the Luna-25 spacecraft, an impulse was to be issued to form its pre-landing elliptical orbit.
At about 14:57 Moscow time, communication with the Luna-25 spacecraft was interrupted.
The measures taken on August 19 and 20 to search for the spacecraft and establish communication with it did not yield any results.
According to preliminary analysis, due to the deviation of the actual impulse parameters from the calculated ones, the spacecraft switched to an unplanned orbit and ceased to exist as a result of a collision with the surface of the Moon.
A specially formed interdepartmental commission will deal with the issues of finding out the reasons for the loss of Luna.
Meanwhile, the Indian spacecraft Chandrayaan-3 is now approaching the surface of the Moon. Its soft landing on the Earth's natural satellite is expected on August 23.
