Russian doctors will be able to extract metallic fragments from the patient's brain using an electromagnet

A prototype of such a device has already been created

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation spoke about a development that will surely be useful not only in military hospitals but also in regular hospitals: medics from the Main Military Clinical Hospital named after Burdenko created a device that allows to extract metal fragments from the patient's brain using an electromagnet.

The proposed by specialists of the Burdenko hospital method of modernizing the Autoplan system is an additional electromagnetic device, with the help of which detected foreign bodies of metallic density will be extracted from the brain without the use of medical instruments.

The interesting thing is - the device is implemented based on the first Russian surgical navigation system using augmented reality technology AutoPlan. It creates a 3D model of the patient's head and allows for precise location of metal fragments in the tissues of the brain.

The new device will allow doctors to avoid drilling large holes in the skull and even not resort to open brain surgeries. In addition, the influence of human factor is eliminated in the process of complex neurosurgical operations.
