Russian doctors will be able to extract metal fragments from patients' brains using an electromagnet

A prototype of such a device has already been created

The Russian Ministry of Defense spoke about a development that will surely be useful not only in military hospitals, but also in ordinary hospitals: doctors from the Main Military Clinical Hospital named after Burdenko have created a device that allows extracting metal fragments from the brain of patients using an electromagnet.

The method of modernizing the "Autoplan" system proposed by specialists from the Burdenko Hospital is an additional electromagnetic device with which detected foreign bodies of metallic density will be extracted from the brain without the use of medical instruments.

The most interesting thing is that the device is implemented on the basis of the first Russian surgical navigation system using augmented reality technologies "Autoplan". It creates a 3D model of the patient's head and allows you to accurately determine the location of metal fragments in the tissues of the brain.

The new device will allow doctors to avoid drilling large holes in the skull and even resorting to open brain surgery. In addition, the influence of the human factor in the process of complex neurosurgical operations is leveled.
