A new drone intended for military purposes has appeared in Russia. This is the "Gastello" kamikaze drone, its mass production has already begun.
The new Russian FPV drone was developed taking into account the wishes of operators of unmanned aerial vehicles working in the special military operation zone. In particular, the copter will have the ability to fly at night and be used in the dark. The design capacity of the new production is five thousand units per month.
At the moment, the share of Russian components in "Gastello" is estimated at 30% (carbon frames and bodies are of domestic production), but in the coming months, developers plan to localize the device by 95%.
The drone was named after the Soviet pilot Nikolai Gastello, who in the early days of the Great Patriotic War rammed a column of Wehrmacht equipment with his damaged DB-3F (later Il-4).
The grandson of the Hero of the Soviet Union, who was also named Nikolai, did not approve of the idea of naming the drone. He believes that Gastello was not a kamikaze, moreover, "not a single pilot who repeated his feat in the Second World War, and there were only those whose names are known, more than 400 people, was a kamikaze", continued the descendant of N.F. Gastello.
FPV (from English First Person View) is a type of control of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), in which the operator sees the image from the UAV camera in real time through virtual reality (VR) glasses or a monitor. This method of control allows the operator to more accurately control the drone, as he sees the same thing as the drone. This is especially important for performing complex maneuvers, such as chasing a moving target or aiming guided weapons.
