The State Design Bureau “Vympel” announced the creation of advanced short-range fifth-generation missiles (RVV-MD2) for Su-57 fighters. It was noted that in Russia they were developed and tested in the shortest time, and now the RVV-MD2 are being adopted into service.

It can be stated that in Russia the development of fifth-generation "air-to-air" missiles, which have reached the industrial stage of production, are ahead of similar developments in the US by five to fifty years.

For the first time among short-range missiles, the RVV-MD2 received an inertial guidance system that controls not only the flight of the missile, but also stabilizes it in the air. Thanks to the inertial system, the missile flies completely autonomously, not relying on any systems (e.g. GPS).

Another feature — RVV-MD2 missiles can hit targets at 360°. That is, the missile is launched forward, turns in the air and flies in any direction — to the side or back.

The fifth-generation short-range RVV-MD2 missiles are a continuation of the previous line of ammunition of this kind. The dimensions are preserved: about three meters — the missile itself, but its precision capabilities are much more serious compared to its predecessors. Missiles can be used from aircraft at different altitudes, on different planes, in various complicated aircraft maneuvers performed by the fighter crew. It should be understood that Russia is thus demonstrating its highest competence in the field of developing aviation weapons, these weapons already directly refer to the fifth-generation Su-57 fighter.
