Today, Vladimir Putin signed a law that prohibits registration on Russian websites using foreign email (like Gmail). Previously, the bill was approved in the State Duma and the Federation Council, and now the document has been published on the official legal information portal.
The law states that from December 1, 2023, on Russian websites where registration and authentication are required, it will not be possible to register using foreign services such as Gmail or Apple ID.
The law provides for several ways to register: by phone number of a Russian mobile operator, using a Russian postal service (for example, Mail.ru), through the Gosuslugi portal, using biometrics, or using identifiers on Russian resources (for example, VK ID).
It is important to note that Russian websites can still be used with foreign email credentials if the corresponding registration was made before December 1, 2023.
