If anyone has long wanted to become a cosmonaut, now there is such an opportunity: Roscosmos has announced a new open recruitment into the cosmonaut corps.
Any citizen of Russia can participate in the competition, the main thing is to meet the key requirements. This is the fourth open recruitment into the corps. In 2012, eight cosmonaut candidates were selected, in 2018 — eight, in 2021 — four. There are currently 26 people in the corps. Applications and documents are accepted until October 30, 2023.
The cosmonaut corps is a kind of living organism. People leave, drop out, move to other jobs, some have other responsibilities. Therefore, the corps is replenished with such recruitments. If we talk about the number of applicants accepted into the corps, I think it depends on the qualities of the candidates — from four to six people.
There are five main areas of selection. First of all, the acceptance and consideration of documents of a person who submits applications. There are areas of professional, psychological and medical selection, as well as physical training.
The results of the selection will be announced by March 22, 2024.
