Engineers of the S.I. Vavilov NPO GOI of the Schwabe holding (part of Rostec) have created a new type of optical fiber. The material will reduce energy consumption and increase bandwidth in data transmission, and devices created with its use will be more stable when working in aggressive environments and not susceptible to electromagnetic interference.
Structurally, the new material is a twisted microstructured optical fiber with several cores made of quartz glass, supplemented with fiber Bragg gratings.
«Optical fibers are indispensable today in telemetry, telemechanics, communications in transport and in the aerospace industry. NPO GOI as part of Schwabe is one of the leaders in Russia in the creation of unique microstructured optical fibers made of quartz glass. The company's products are immune to electromagnetic interference and have a long service life – 25 years or more. We are convinced that their new development will find wide application in the most precise sectors of Russian industry», – Oleg Evtushenko, Executive Director of Rostec, commented on the development.
