Aeroflot's CEO Sergey Aleksandrovskiy announced that the company is negotiating with foreign lessors about the "insurance settlement" on 47 Airbus and Boeing aircraft, which are on an operational lease.
"The process [of buying back the aircraft] turned out to be a bit more complicated and longer than we expected. However, we are quite active in moving the insurance settlement with the lessors, about 47 aircraft in work. The process is in an active phase, I will not say more, because the lessors are very sensitive to this issue " - said Aleksandrovskiy.
According to the head of Aeroflot, eventually these aircraft will become the property of a specially created leasing company, on behalf which Aeroflot will make lease payments. Financing the buyback will be done by the National Welfare Fund.
There are currently 346 aircraft in the Aeroflot group's fleet (including Pobeda and Russia subsidiaries). Buying back the airliners would increase their number nearly to 400.
