The head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov (who is also the chairman of the board of directors of AvtoVAZ JSC) in an interview with RIA Novosti announced that AvtoVAZ needs to consider the transition to Cyrillic in the names of its cars.
"You know, I will pass your message to my colleagues. It's absolutely fair in terms of perception, and I think AvtoVAZ needs to work out this idea. At least in terms of replacing foreign words in model names. In fact, at the next board meeting, I hope they will provide feedback and their suggestions" – he said.
"As for Cyrillic specifically, there is still the factor of export supplies, where Latin will still be relevant" - Manturov clarified.
Talks about that Lada can be renamed to "Lada" have been going on since last year, but now AvtoVaz is clearly more occupied with production than naming problems. So it's far from a fact that Lada will really be renamed.
