Alexander Kosovich, a senior researcher at the Laboratory of Physical Chemistry of Metallurgical Processes and Materials at the Siberian Federal University, announced that the university has found a way to improve Hadfield steel (alloy steel with a high content of carbon and manganese).
«The increase in the impact strength of steel is achieved by optimizing the chemical composition. We can say that with the increase in impact strength, the amount of energy that the material is able to absorb upon impact increases. In simple terms: the optimized steel will withstand more shock loads during the operation of products made from it», – said Alexander Kosovich. The scientist added that the increase in viscosity occurs due to the optimization of the composition of alloying additives. The research has already found practical application at one of the enterprises of the Krasnoyarsk Territory in the production of cone armors for crushers.
