Scientists from Samara State Technical University have found a new way to improve hydrocarbon energy through a renewable source – solar energy. They proposed using solar energy for the thermochemical transformation of hydrocarbon fuel – methane, and hydrogen-enriched gas will improve the efficiency of gas turbine plants by 30%.
«By using hydrogen-enriched gas in gas turbines, it is possible, on the one hand, to reduce the consumption of hydrocarbon fuel, and on the other hand, to increase the efficiency of using low-potential solar energy. It is also a good step towards reducing carbon dioxide emissions while maintaining existing capacities», – said the author of the technology, Associate Professor of the Department of Industrial Heat Power Engineering of SamSTU Dmitry Pashchenko.
The SamSTU scientists' project has already received support from the Russian Science Foundation.
