Scientists from Samara State Technical University have found a new way to improve hydrocarbon energy production using a renewable source - solar energy. They proposed using solar energy for the thermochemical transformation of hydrocarbon fuel - methane, and gas enriched with hydrogen will increase the efficiency of gas turbine units by 30%.

«By using hydrogen-enriched gas in gas turbines, it is possible to reduce hydrocarbon fuel consumption on the one hand, and, on the other hand, to increase the efficiency of low-potential solar energy use. This is also a good step towards reducing carbon dioxide emissions while preserving existing capacities», - explained the author of the technology, associate professor of the department of industrial thermal power engineering of SamSTU Dmitry Paschenko.

The project of SamSTU scientists has already received the support of the Russian Science Foundation.
