The Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation announced that the deal for the sale of the Russian Volkswagen plant is nearing completion. The buyer is – no surprises here – the "Avilon" dealer.
«[Governmental] commission has already passed. Accordingly, the parameters have been approved and the implementation of the transaction between "Avilon" and Volkswagen is being completed. Next is the work with industrial partners with whom "Avilon" will organize production», - said the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov.
Earlier there were rumors that "Avilon" would establish the assembly of Chinese cars at the enterprise in cooperation with Chery – the plant would produce cars under the Chery and Exeed brands. However, there is no official confirmation of this data yet.
As for another major Russian car production – the former Nissan plant, it will be renamed "LADA St. Petersburg". Recall that this enterprise in February 2023 went to the FSUE "NAMI" subordinate to the Ministry of Industry and Trade. Now, instead of Japanese cars, Chinese cars will be assembled here: the production of the Lada X-cross 5 crossover, which is in fact a renamed "Chinese car" FAW Bestune T77, will begin in June.
