The head of the Ministry of Digital Development, Maksut Shadaev, at the "Telecom" conference, said that attackers in Russia have switched from mobile communications to the WhatsApp messenger: 70-80% of the time they use it.
"I believe that over this year, together with the operators, we have made very great progress, as we see it. The number of calls made via mobile phone has decreased significantly", - said Maksut Shadaev.
He reminded about the responsibility for passing traffic with spoofed numbers and added: "All this has a great effect. And now we clearly see that 70-80% of fraudulent calls are made not from ordinary numbering, but from WhatsApp. In this sense, we will continue this work further".
The head of the Ministry of Digital Development said that the department, together with operators, will look for technological solutions to the problem. "In my understanding, WhatsApp is about the same as sending various electronic offers of inheritance in Africa by mail in the past. Of course, we will fight this, but very carefully", - said Maksut Shadaev.
