Head of the Ministry of Digital Development Maksut Shadaev at the “Telecom” conference told about the fact that malefactors in Russia have switched from mobile communication to WhatsApp messenger: 70-80% of cases they use exactly it.
"I believe that this year together with the operators we have made a lot of progress, as we see it. The number of calls made here by mobile phone, has decreased significantly", — said Maksut Shadaev.
He reminded about the responsibility for missing traffic with spoofed numbers and added: "All this is wonderful. And now we clearly see that 70-80% of fraudulent calls are not made from ordinary numbering, but from WhatsApp. In this sense, we will continue this work".
The head of the Ministry of Digital Development announced that the department, together with operators, will look for technological solutions to the problem. "In my understanding, WhatsApp is about the same as once by mail different electronic offers of inheritance in Africa were sent. Of course, we'll fight it, but very cautiously", — said Maksut Shadaev.
