The story of the sale of the Russian Volkswagen plant is nearing its end. Despite all of GAZ's claims against Volkswagen Group Rus, the Russian subsidiary of Volkswagen AG, the government has approved the sale of the enterprise to the Avilon car dealership holding. This was reported today by the Vedomosti newspaper, citing its sources.
The value of the deal has not been disclosed, but according to the editor-in-chief of Za Rulem magazine, Maxim Kadakov, "government agencies tried to bring the deal to a real market level, albeit with a discount." He also confirms rumors that Chery cars will be produced at the plant. It is assumed that the cars will be produced both under the Chery brand and under the Exeed sub-brand. At the same time, according to Maxim Kadakov, "Chery will still have to invest – in the reorganization of production, in logistics, personnel, and so on."
Avilon is expected to confirm the acquisition of the Russian Volkswagen plant in the near future. The enterprise, we recall, is located in Kaluga, its maximum production capacity is 225 thousand cars per year.
