The Russian Volkswagen factory continues to remain in the spotlight. Recall, on March 20, it was arrested by a lawsuit from GAZ, however, the arrest was lifted on Monday, which caused dissatisfaction among GAZ workers. Today, automotive expert and author of the Telegram channel "Russian Car" Sergey Tsyganov reported that the Chinese company Chery plans to purchase the Volkswagen factory in Kaluga. Before the arrest of the company, the main contender was considered "Avilon" - the largest car dealer in Russia.
"I was just informed that the Volkswagen factory in Kaluga is being bought by the Chinese company Chery. This will happen right after GAZ went to court for the arrest of FGR assets [LLC "Volkswagen Group Rus" - this is the Russian "daughter" of Volkswagen AG], and the FGR managed to lift the arrest from production. This somersault has sifted out "unnecessary" buyers in the faces of Avilon and Allure, leaving the necessary one. A dark horse that has not yet shown up as a interested party in such a deal", Sergey Tsyganov wrote on his Telegram channel.
In his next message, Tsyganov added that, it seems, Chery was the main contender for the Nissan factory in St. Petersburg: "Negotiations with AvtoVAZ and NAMI advanced quite far, but the Chinese did not want to give the freshest models, 2023, to Russian production. After which, one of the participants in these negotiations wrote to me, as if justifying himself: "you know, Chery cars are not the best ..."
