The Russian Volkswagen plant continues to be in the spotlight. As a reminder, on March 20, it was seized at the suit of GAZ, but the arrest was lifted on Monday, which caused discontent among GAZ employees. Today, auto expert and author of the Telegram channel "Russian Automobile" Sergei Tsyganov reported that the Chinese company Chery plans to acquire the Volkswagen plant in Kaluga. Before the arrest of the company, Avilon, the largest car dealer in Russia, was considered the main contender.
“I have just been informed that the Volkswagen plant in Kaluga is being bought by the Chinese company Chery. This will happen immediately after GAZ went to court for the arrest of the assets of FGR [VOLKSWAGEN Group Rus LLC is the Russian "daughter" of Volkswagen AG], and FGR managed to lift the arrest from production. This somersault weeded out the "unnecessary" buyers in the faces of Avilon and Allure, leaving the right one. A dark horse that has not yet emerged as an interested party in such a deal,” Sergei Tsyganov wrote in his Telegram channel.
In his next message, Tsyganov added that it seems that Chery was the main contender for the Nissan plant in St. Petersburg: "Negotiations with VAZ and NAMI have advanced quite far, but the Chinese did not want to give the newest models of 2023 to Russian production. After that, a participant in these negotiations wrote to me, as if justifying himself: "you know, Chery doesn't have the best cars..."
