The new version of the T-90M2 "Ryvok-1" tank is considered as a development of the T-90M "Proryv" platform. In essence, it is not about creating a new generation, but about a deep modernization of an already serially produced vehicle with the addition of technologies previously associated with more promising projects.
Enhanced Platform and Digital Architecture
The T-90M2 retains its basic design but receives a refined V-92S2F power plant with 1130 hp, a modernized transmission, and an overhauled running gear. Wider tracks and reinforced suspension improve cross-country capability with increased weight.
The fire control system is being converted to a digital architecture, which accelerates data processing and increases firing accuracy in dynamic combat conditions.
Protection Against New Threats
Key emphasis is placed on survivability. The complex includes Arena-M active protection and enhanced Relikt explosive reactive armor.
Special attention is paid to the upper hemisphere and turret – areas most vulnerable to drone attacks and high-precision weapons.
Why Not Bet on "Armata"
Unlike the T-14, the T-90M2 relies on an already established production base. This accelerates production, reduces costs, and simplifies operation.
At the same time, some solutions are borrowed from newer developments, forming an intermediate technological level.
The T-90M2 "Ryvok-1" reflects a strategy of gradual modernization: instead of transitioning to a new platform, the existing one is being strengthened. This approach allows for faster adaptation of equipment to modern threats and maintains the mass character of armored units.
