The dominance of US aircraft in the air is based on stealth and the ability to strike targets anywhere, anytime. However, the Russians have learned to calculate American F-35 Lightning II fighters and Northrop B-2 Spirit strategic bombers. This is according to military expert Brandon J. Weichert in an article for The National Interest.
According to the expert, the Russian military has focused on VHF radars. They are used in air defense systems. In other words, Russian SAMs can theoretically detect the F-35.
Russia has developed advanced radars, including the 55Zh6M Nebo-M mobile radar system and the Resonance-NE adaptive coherent radar system.
According to Weichert, the Russians are developing an integrated detection system in which VHF radar is key.
Of course, the Americans will argue that the threat is exaggerated. But the era of US dominance in stealth technology is over. We are moving towards a point where the US military's weapons will become obsolete in the face of innovative but cheaper Russian developments.
Characteristics of the Nebo-M radar system:
- Detection range - 600 km
- Number of tracks accompanied - 200
- Deployment time - 15 minutes
