Russia has always relied on submarines as carriers of nuclear weapons. Project 945A Kondor submarines (NATO classification Sierra II), which have no analogues in the United States, deserve special attention. This was written by military expert Brent Eastwood in an article for 19FortyFive magazine.
Project 945A Kondor submarines have titanium hulls. This material is light and durable, which provides submarines with speed and maneuverability. However, such a hull is difficult to manufacture.
Submarines of this class are distinguished by their stealth and can dive to great depths.
In 1990, the Nizhny Novgorod submarine of Project 945A Kondor was built, and in 1993, the Pskov.
These submarines have a wide range of weapons, including S-10 Granat cruise missiles and RPK-6 Vodopad rocket-torpedoes.
Expert Eastwood suggested that Russia intends to modernize the Project 945A Kondor submarines. Thus, they will be part of the Russian Navy during the 2030s.
