Russian military personnel can use the latest guided air missiles S-8L to destroy heavy drones such as the "Lyutyi". This was stated by military expert Evgeny Damantsev.
The analyst recalled that the missile is equipped with folding two-section aerodynamic rudders, as well as a small semi-active homing head (seeker) with a laser fuse.
The illumination by the semi-active laser seeker of the S-8L can be carried out by laser rangefinders-target designators of Ka-52M and Mi-28NM helicopters, or in optoelectronic systems of the Termit helicopter-type UAV, as well as ground-based systems such as 1D22 or more modern analogues.
The S-8L guided air missile, caliber 80 millimeters, with a high-explosive fragmentation warhead, is designed for high-precision destruction of single and group ground mobile and stationary targets. It will effectively cope with lightly armored objects.
The effective range of the S-8L is 6 km with a maximum flight speed of 570 m/s. From helicopters and airplanes, the S-8L is launched from standard blocks of the B8V20 and B8M1 types.
