The Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) are armed with the Il-78MK-90A tanker aircraft. It is designed for in-flight refueling of various types of aircraft (one heavy or two tactical aircraft) through three refueling points. And on the ground, it can "feed" up to four aircraft.
At the same time, in just a few hours, the aircraft can be converted into a transport aircraft to perform tasks of landing personnel, military equipment or cargo.
The Il-78MK-90A can take off and land from runways (RWY) with both hard and unpaved surfaces.
The aircraft is equipped with modern avionics, including a new generation sighting and navigation flight complex. The aircraft is capable of flying in any geographical and climatic conditions, day and night, in simple and complex weather conditions.
The Il-78MK-90A refueling equipment includes two removable fuselage fuel tanks in the cargo compartment, a fire detection and extinguishing system, an emergency fuel drain system, a short-range navigation system and unified suspended refueling units.

- Maximum take-off weight — 210,000 kg
- Fuel transferred in flight at a range of 1000 km — 78 t
- Flight speed during refueling — 450-600 km/h
- Maximum payload in transport version — 60,000 kg
