The modernized Tor-M3 military anti-aircraft missile system will become more productive compared to the standard Tor-M2U version. This was stated by military expert Evgeny Damanцев.
The analyst noted that the modernization will affect the throughput and target channel of the radar station (RLS) guidance. Now the installation has four target channels, the number of which may increase if equipped with a new multi-element radar.
It is expected to develop new anti-aircraft guided missiles based on 9M338K with an active homing head (GOS), which will free up target channels and increase the total fire performance to 16 targets per minute.
Also, the Tor-M3 will implement new algorithms for processing radar information, which will allow the complex to intercept hypersonic targets with speeds up to 1600 m/s. The effective reflecting surface (RCS) of striking targets can be reduced to 0.005 m².
Brief tactical and technical characteristics of the Tor-M2 SAM system
- Engagement range — 16 km
- Engagement height — up to 10 km
- Maximum speed of engaged targets — 1000 m/s
- Number of simultaneously tracked targets — 48
- Number of simultaneously engaged targets — 4
